This is a transcription of the Diary/Journal of Abelard Guthrie from January 1 - March 7, 1860. Guthrie begins this section of the Journal commenting on his son's toothache, and applying laudanum to the cavity repeatedly so Jacob can sleep through the night. He also discusses his multiple financial problems, and says that he cannot divert his mind "from the contemplation of this pinching poverty." Guthrie also mentions visiting Lucy B. Armstrong, and leaving with her a draft of a memorial to Congress and also a letter to the Commission of Indian Affairs asking for the money that is yet due to the Wyandots, and proposing that Lucy be the Agent in charge of settling their financial accounts with the Government.
