Quapaw Agency Industrial Survey, 1926

Quapaw Agency Industrial Survey, 1926
In 1922, the Office of Indian Affairs (now BIA) issued Circular 1774 requiring all Indian agents to survey the agricultural industries of families living within agency jurisdictions. The records provide a snapshot of everyday life in Indian Country, including glimpses into agriculture and ranching, education, family life, kinship, religious practices, and resistance. These surveys were primarily conducted by Indian Agent / Superintended J.L. Suffecool on the Quapaw Agency in 1926. Superintendent O.K. Chandler conducted a preliminary survey around 1924. The nations represented in the Quapaw Agency Industrial Survey predominantly include the Quapaw, Seneca-Cayuga, Shawnee, and Wyandot.
The industrial surveys are part of the Records of the Bureau of Indian Affairs' Education Division at the National Archives & Records Administration, Washington, D.C.
